If you are as fortunate as I am, you have a series of moments with your spouse that provide you and your friends with a smile from time to time. I think this is one of those times.
My wife and I love The Maltese Falcon. A great film noir with Humphrey Bogart. Some of you may remember that Warner Brothers had a chain of stores for a time and would sell various things relating to their films and shows and such. One of those things was a replica of the statuette itself. As I remember it was much smaller than the one in the film and quite pricey. My wife wanted it… bad.
I said, “Bah… I can make one of those, and it’ll be better.” (My usual creative bravado.)
I don’t know for sure, but I’m sure she “poo-pooed” me. Well, she went to visit her family in Nicaragua for 3 weeks and I went to work to make sure I didn’t put my foot in my mouth!!
This was back in the early 90s; no internet for reference and a LOT of guesswork to fill in the gaps. I took photos, actual photos with a camera, had them printed and worked from them.
When she came back, I had this… needless to say it’s now considered a family heirloom and our daughter already has dibs. Though this image doesn’t show it my beak is stronger, I think my feathers on the back are a bit more realistic as well.
Creative bravado is the only bravado I feel comfortable with!! I’m pretty sure MINE is NOT worth $4 million!!
