It’s been a while, but I’m still here. I took a few days off and had to get ready to start a new semester teaching. I’m still working on the pastel drawing, so those of you who might be curious about it, don’t worry… I will finish it.
I actually want to share a drawing lesson. For those of you who don’t know, along with being an artist and working as a graphic designer, I also teach. Initially I taught just digital work as it relates to fashion, but this semester I am very excited to be teaching drawing as well. I’d like to share a simple exercise that I started with this year.
The idea here is that I believe I can teach anyone to draw, or improve their drawing. I don’t think I could make you a great artist, but I think I can help you SEE more accurately. I believe it’s seeing that is the key here…
Get a blank sheet of paper and a pencil. Don’t panic… I know that a blank piece of paper can be terrifying.
I want you to draw an Apple. A red apple. You heard me right. We all know what an apple looks like. The key here is DRAW FROM MEMORY. You HAVE to do this by drawing from memory. I know YOU know what an apple looks like. IF you use a reference photo you won’t get as much out of this.
