Less is More

Viewing artwork that is grand in scale with a complicated layout and many colors is wonderful… but it can be a bit overwhelming at times. I truly love to see (and execute) something that is simpler so I can concentrate on the lines. This is almost an opposite response to my post about hyperrealism.

As school starts up again and I’ll be teaching fashion drawing, I always use David Downton as a point of reference. His work is so simple, yet it conveys beauty and passion.

In college I discovered Egon Schiele and was immediately captivated by his line work and emotion.

Though I’ve worked in many mediums, I always come back to the pencil and paper… and sometimes Less Is More.
